Ladybug Earrings

The ladybug earrings are a mystical object of power and a key to Marinette Dupain-Cheng’s transformation into Ladybug. They are placed in the raised center of the Mother Box along with the Cat Miraculous, with both of their sections creating a yin-yang symbol (like in every yin-yang there’s some of each in the other). The Ladybug Miraculous belongs to the yin section and has the power of coldness, darkness, and passiveness, while the Cat Miraculous is in the yang portion which has the power of warmth, light, and intuition (which interprets the Cat Miraculous).

When in their charged and activated mode, the earrings emit a glowing pink aura and a high pitched beeping sound. They can also be used to create a shield that protects the wearer, as shown in “The Pharaoh”. Marinette is able to use them to form her signature wings and to encase herself with protective energy for combat situations.

In “Miraculous Paris”, it’s revealed that the Ladybug Miraculous can be used to alter reality to the holder’s wishes, however, this comes with an equal and opposite reaction; for example, becoming human would result in losing one’s humanity. As a precaution against this possibility, the holder must also use a special invocation that calls upon the balance of nature and all things living and dead.

They’re also a powerful tool for restoring the world from damage caused by a supervillain or Cat Noir’s Cataclysm. When a Ladybug Miraculous holder throws the Lucky Charm object into the air and says Miraculous, it turns into a swarm of magical ladybugs with restoration powers capable of repairing any and all damaged areas in the world in an instant.

Known Ladybug Miraculous holders

The Ladybug Miraculous was created thousands of years ago by an unnamed mage. The current holder is Marinette Dupain-Cheng, who uses it to transform into Ladybug and later unified it with the Mouse, Dragon, Bee, Horse, Rabbit, and Cat Miraculouses to turn into Multibug, Dragon Bug, Lady Bee, Pegabug, Pennybug, and Bug Noire. In the alternate universe, it was also used by a version of Alya Cesaire who turned into Scarabella and by Adrien Agreste when he temporarily became Mister Bug.

In the main timeline, it’s also been reclaimed by Gabriel who used it to transform into Monarch Bug in the erased timeline. It was later stolen by Alya and used to become Shadybug in “Miraculous Paris”. It was finally recovered by the Resistance and reunited with Marinette in “Deflagration”. A version of the earrings were used by an alternative universe Marinette who became Shadybug in “Transmission” and by a different Adrien Agreste in “Passion”. It’s unknown if these alternate versions can access the Ultimate Miraculous Absolute Power.
