The movie is a feature-length spinoff of the popular animated series. It was engineered to both kowtow to diehards and draw in new fans. As such, it’s a fun grab bag of action, teen romance and superheroes who break into song to express their emotions.
Despite being an awkward school klutz, Marinette Dupain-Cheng (voiced by Cristina Vee Valenzuela) finds herself the object of a whimsy when a mysterious glowing green talisman bestows her with magical powers and transforms her into Ladybug. Meanwhile, her high school crush Adrien (voiced by Jeremy Sisto) utilizes his own mystical power to become Cat Noir. Now, these two teenage heroes must unite to save Paris as a villain unleashes chaos into the city.
The film is filled with a lot of fast-paced fighting and an abundance of characters that magically transform into superheroes while wearing formfitting costume outfits. The fight scenes can sometimes feel a little too over the top but overall the story is charming and the characters have a likable quality to them.
One of the main lessons in the film is that teamwork is key. Ladybug and Cat Noir discover that they are stronger when they work together rather than individually. This lesson can be applied to any situation in life. Especially when it comes to romantic relationships. The film also focuses on the importance of family. When a family is separated during a crisis it can cause immense pain. The characters in the film all learn valuable life lessons and it makes for a heartfelt drama.
Some differences between the TV show and the film are that the Ladybug and Cat Noir Miraculouses vibrate and glow differently in this movie. In the television show whenever Cat Noir used his Cataclysm power on the Eiffel Tower it would destroy a few beams of the tower while in the movie the entire structure is brought down. This is due to the fact that the movie has a faster pace.
Another difference is that the heros in this movie can use their powers multiple times while in the television show it is only possible if the hero is still a minor. The last difference is that the hero’s in this movie can jump off of buildings while the hero’s in the TV show can only fall off a building and fall into the water below. This is because the TV show is aired on an hour and a half block while the movie is a feature length production.
