Ladybug Hibernation

In most of North America, the ladybugs have developed into a social group and will come together in the late summer or early fall to go into what is called a “ladybug hibernation”. What is ladybug hibernation? A good question, I think that we might all like to know. The ladybugs actually hibernate, they go into a very different type of suspended state. Most people are not aware of this phenomenon, because it only happens during the winter months. Well, for the ladybugs that are native to North America, they will hibernate through the winter as well.

They do this in order to get a feel of the weather and their environment when coming back out for the spring. There are many different reasons that the ladybugs will hibernate. It could be because of the change of the seasons, it could be because they are stressed out from all of the activity they have been doing, or they could be sick. If you look at your ladybugs over time, you will notice that some of them have a grayish color to them. This is because they have been in a hibernation state.

Now, for the ladybugs that come back out every year, the reason behind ladybug hibernating can vary. Some of them just come back for one reason or another, but the end result is always the same. They come back to the tree tops, and the plants and the flowers. The beauty of watching a ladybug hibernating is quite amazing, and it is quite relaxing to watch.
