Having gained a massive following and spawning multiple merchandise lines, the popular cartoon series Miraculous Ladybug & Cat Noir is finally getting its first feature film adaptation. Director Jeremey Zag brings together his love of film, animation, song and dance in this colorful film that tells the origin story of the teen French superheroes.
The Ladybug & Cat Noir cast
Although Marinette Dupain-Cheng seems like a typical teenager, she has a secret other teens don’t — she lives a double life as the crime-fighting superhero Ladybug and is assisted by her crush Adrien Agreste as Cat Noir. Together, they help keep Paris safe from supervillain Hawk Moth and other villains. However, Marinette’s civilian self and her superheroine identity are often separated by her conflicting emotions.
Adrien Agreste (voiced by Marc-André Ayala in the English dub and by Tony Marot in the French version) is a high school student who has a crush on Marinette but doesn’t know her superhero identity. He is also the host of a radio show and runs a blog, which leads to him becoming an investigative reporter in real life. He is a kind and helpful person who is always ready to help his friends, even if they don’t realize it.
Alya Cesaire / Rena Rouge (voiced by Carrie Keranen in the English dub and Fanny Bloc in the French version) is a schoolmate who admires and respects Marinette. She operates a website dedicated to her favorite superhero and is constantly trying to speak with Adrien. Alya is a supportive friend and is aware of Marinette’s superhero lifestyle, although she doesn’t share her own.
Chloe Bourgeois / Queen Bee (voiced by Selah Victor in the English dub and Marie Chevalot in the French version) is the mayor’s daughter and a student in Miss Bustier’s class. She is selfish, overzealous and spoiled, only showing remorse when she’s being tormented by her alter-ego Marinette or when she’s bossing around her friends Sabrina Raincomprix and Adrien Agreste. Chloe is a goody-two-shoes who’s easily manipulated. She’s usually the one to instigate someone getting Akumatized or who gets Akumatized herself. Her initial villain form is “AntiBug” followed by her aquatic Queen Bee form.
Marinette’s fashion-loving grandmother Gina Dupain (voiced by Reba Buhr in the English dub and by Annelie Van der Gucht in the French version) is a fun-loving woman who has traveled all over the world. She loves to make her own clothes and decorate her home with items from different countries. Her brash nature often leads to her being antagonized by Adrien, but she eventually warms up to him. She wears a T-shirt with the Dark Side of the Moon print, an allusion to Pink Floyd’s album of the same name. Despite her age, she is very active and enjoys dancing. Her villain form is a clock-like “Backwarder” who can make people perform actions in reverse.
